The New York State Health Commissioner wants movies that show cigarettes to get an R rating. This is in hopes that kids under 18 don’t try to imitate celebrities who smoke. Despite city and state efforts to ban public smoking over the past several years, movies still show smoking and often glamorize the act. The Health Dept has taken out full-page ads in the NY Times and Wall Street Journal as part of an $800,000 campaign.
